Day One: Friday

Day Three: Sunday

Photographer’s Notes:
The court has florescent lighting dangling from the arched lid. At both ends, the walls have a substantial amount of natural light coming from opaque walls of class. But it’s just not enough. The smart photographer would have shown up with a few flashes and a bag of batteries, because the lighting just isnt bright enough to freeze the action and still get white to look white, even at f2.8 and 1100+ iso. A good excuse to buy some SB’s (soon).

What makes the Broadway Recreation Center difficult to photograph as well, is that 2 walls are white and 2 are dark wood. Plus each wall has double-doors opening to the outside light (ie glare) which really mess up the exposures. All photos were taken with Nikon D300 and either a 70-200mm f2.8, or a 14-24mm 4.5 wide angle.

I’ve shot MMA fights at this facility before, and you’re right about the lighting. It’s tough even with fast glass. Good job Loren!
